Cogito me cogitare ergo sum.
Let us start with an example. In front of me, in the dim light, lies this white paper. I see it, touch it. This perceptual seeing and touching of the paper as the full concrete experience of the paper that lies here as given in truth precisely with this relative lack of clearness, with this imperfect definition, appearing to me from this particular angle–– is a cogitatio, a conscious experience.
LIGHTS
Performer A, is sitting on the front row of some placed seating in a performance area. The lights up, reveals the full environment of the auditorium as a place where an audience are seated in a configuration an arc, separated by a red demarcation line on the floor from the piece of paper. A stands,
A.
I thought at first that thinking about the piece of paper would in itself
demand
complete
silence that was my first thought
about how
to
think
about
Nothing.
pause.
of course after a little while
it became clear
that to think about nothing is impossible
The paper, clamours to be thought of as paper (uneasy laugh)
the sense that the thought brought
with it
the paper?
presumably just being paper had started it off
and now
this piece of paper, both in the world and of the world, and of itself
celebrates,
As I touch the paper, I hear the definition dim.
LIGHTS dim
A small piece of white paper is lit in the performance area. Only the paper is defined by the light as an installation, isolated as a visual image suspended centra stage.
Voice off
ohhy
Someone, performer B suddenly appears and grasps the paper from its setting, the light cuts out BLACKNESS as aggressively and noisily the performer screwing the paper into a ball (on mike) throws the ball out towards the audience. Exit almost immediately only just perceptible as the gloom, hastens the sound of a note, a musical note
